Newman’s Holidays has been over 125 years in the making!
From it’s humble beginnings in 1879 when brothers Thomas and
Harry Newman commenced the first scheduled coach transportation service for mail and passengers in the South Island of New Zealand, the business quickly grew and in 1911 the Newman Brothers entered the motorized era with 7 seater Cadillac’s.
In 1922, after the passing of Harry, Thomas took control of the
company and was joined by his son Jack who quickly became the driving force behind the expansion of the Newman’s Empire. By 1926 the Newman’s had a fleet of 60 Cadillac cars and in the early 1930’s the first fleet of 25 seat coaches was added.
Over the next 30 years Newman’s expanded rapidly beyond mail, freight and passenger transport services, to also offer fully escorted
coach tours and packaged holidays, which still exist today. Over that time, the Newman’s business opened in Australia, Japan, the USA and United Kingdom. 1979 saw the celebration of the 100 year anniversary. Even then, the Newman family still owned and operated the business. Today, over 125 years on, while the Newman family is no longer involved, Newmans Holidays is pleased to continue the service philosophy and quality that is recognised as an icon of the travel industry worldwide.
